Appendix - 'Moonshine' Smugglers.

For the purpose of this category, and to group similar body styles, the definition of this group is:-

 

Any American production vehicle manufactured over the years 1930 to 1959, built in the manner to represent 'Moonshine' smuggler's cars in the prohibition times in the USA.

 

The intent is to have vehicles that appear standard, but may have high performance engine modifications to enhance performance, in order to out-run the law makers of the day.

 

 

 

Variations to the General Rules.

 

Cars must comply with General rules, as well as rules for Road Cars, except as described below.

 

A Concourse will be held for the first round, of the first series.

 

A one off 'night' race may be held at the end of the 2nd series, so functional head and tail lights should be allowed for during assembly.

 

Interior:-

All requirements for Road Car Interior must be met, except for:-

Roll cage (4 or 6 point) may be installed.

 

Body:-

Vehicle appearance must be standard.  No modifications are allowed.

ie No performance enhanced kit bodies to be used.  No Hot Rods, Customs, Race versions etc.

 

Bodies may be painted in colours suitable to the era of the original vehicle.

ie. No Fluro, or highly metalic colours.

 

To enhance the appearance of the model, it is required to have a model engine fully enclosed under the bonnet.

The bonnet must be able to be opened to display the engine.

The engine may be modified in line with performance equipment of the era.

ie. Multiple carburettors, headers, etc.  No injectors, or turbo's etc.

Side pipes and under bonnet superchargers are acceptable.

 

Allowable types of vehicle:-

a/ Cars (Coupes and sedans), Pick-ups, Wagons, and Vans as Moonshiner's vehicles.

b/ Sedans (2 or 4 door) for Police or FBI vehicles.

 

Convertibles were rarely used (if ever), so convertibles are not permitted.

 

Wheels and Tyres:-

Wheels must look like original issue for the vehicle.

 

Must have the appearance of standard steel wheel, and/or standard hubcap as originally fitted.

ie. Modern (post 1959) mag wheels are not permitted.

 

Tyres must be in keeping with the era.

ie. Low profile tyres are not permitted.

 

 

Keep in mind, 'Moonshine' cars were meant to be inconspicuous to the law, but fast enough to get away if chased.

 

All other requirements are to comply with General Rules for Road Cars.
